Health Poverty Action is teaching ethnic communities in remote areas of Laos how to limit the spread of malaria by spreading key health messages among villagers through printed materials and community health education activities.

We are working in remote border areas, with local health bodies and the Lao Women’s Union, to teach ethnic communities about the disease. This includes:

  • training village volunteers to educate their peers about malaria
  • targeting school children via a health programme
  • distributing bed nets
  • diagnosing and referring malaria sufferers to a health facility
  • teaching health workers how to conduct routine monitoring and evaluation to ensure the success of the project.

Health Poverty Action is working alongside the Global Fund and local partners in this project in five provinces in Laos.

Over five years, the project will reach out to almost 800 villages in five provinces of Laos.

Providing vital education about malaria prevention in remote communities is key to reducing preventable deaths.
