Health Poverty Action engages with young people to identify risky behaviour, and together with youth workers, teachers and parents, teams agree behaviour that will reduce the likelihood of HIV infection.
The project also engages with schools and church leaders in its fight against HIV and AIDS at a wider level, building networks of support and adding weight to campaigns.
Some 1,800 young people are benefiting from the project, based in Siuna, in the North Atlantic Autonomous Region of Nicaragua. Health Unlimited is building on the success of its 2004 project to improve sexual and reproductive rights amongst young people, which established an initial network of young people, youth clubs and trained youth health promoters.
